The Millennial Attention Span - and How It Impacts Filmmakers

How did we get here? from 3-hour attention spans to 30 seconds

We got here quite quickly, to be honest. It wasn't long back that we had a Bollywood film song describing the female lead's hair run for about 6 minutes.

We moved to 4-minute songs, then to 2-minute songs, and yep, we now only know 15 seconds of each song, thanks to #Reels

A large chunk of the urban population in India is now working on laptops all day. Thanks to more social media and awareness about our health, we know that less screen time = healthier eyes, and fewer migraines.

This means we don't want to come back from work after staring at a medium-sized screen, to gawk at a slightly larger-sized screen where mostly people are running around trees and singing.

A lot of us switched to reading books.

Short films are here to stay

How can we be so sure? Because people are very concerned about the time they spend consuming content. If I have 15 minutes to take a break and watch something funny, chances are I will look for a stand-up comedy special. Why?

The shorter the better

The game is changing, and filmmakers need to adapt!

Does this mean long-form content is dead?

Well, that's a discussion for another blog :)
